THE BENEFITS AND IMPORTANCE OF LEGAL IMMIGRATION

Immigration brings in wave after wave of immigrants every minute of every day. Airports, seaports and borders all over the world are constantly filled to capacity and under pressure to quickly process immigration applications and grant entry. Immigration is seen as the moving force that energizes a nation's economic state by way of meeting the labor demands and encouraging economic boosts as these immigrants also increase purchasing power.

However, immigration unfortunately also goes hand in hand with illegal immigration where unscrupulous individuals try to evade the immigration laws and find a way around them to live and work illegally and benefit from the federal immigration benefits. While legal immigrants compose a significant part of the immigration number, illegal immigrants constitute more.

When a potential immigrant wishes to apply for residency in a particular country, he or she must abide by the immigration rules and regulations set by that country as anybody who doesn't may find themselves either denied entry subject to the laws of immigration or deported back to their country of origin.

Legal immigration often create new businesses and other employment-generating activities that promote the renewal of city neighborhoods and commercial districts. Legal immigrants can also strengthen a country's economic and political ties with other nations and, thus, enhance our ability to compete in a global economy and provide leadership in international and humanitarian affairs.

Properly regulated immigration further strengthens American scientific, literary, artistic and other cultural resources. It promotes family values and ties, important components of good schools and strong communities. At a time of troubling ethnic strife in many parts of the world, an effective immigration policy can demonstrate to other countries that religious and ethnic diversity are compatible with national civic unity in a democratic and free society.

Legal immigrants do not have to worry about receiving below minimum wage earnings, as they have the same rights and privileges in earning the same amount as their American counterparts. If there is a dispute in this regard, they can follow legal channels to stop the discrimination and receive compensation, whereas illegal immigrants are not able to appeal to the legal authorities without revealing their illegal status.

Illegal immigrants are therefore more likely to accept very low wages for long hours of hard toil out of fear of exposure. Legal immigration also encourages the best and brightest of other nations to bring their skills to their chosen country, which helps us grow the number and quality of high-wage jobs.

Legal immigrants do not have to hide in fear of deportation. They can use their real name, rather than assume an alias, and they can conduct their everyday affairs normally. Illegal immigrants, on the other hand, do not know if their friends are true friends or if they will turn them in to the authorities. Then there is the constant fear of being separated from loved ones. Once a deportation order is authorised, illegal immigrants lose the right to apply to live in America again in future.

It is clear that illegal immigration is detrimental to a nation's health and should therefore not be encouraged and prevented in every way possible. Hopefully all potential immigrants will know and understand that by following and going through the correct procedures and channels they will successfully be granted residency and allowed to work in their chosen country and live better lives.
